Youth Day & Youth to Washington
Contest Information & Guidelines:
The Youth to Washington Contest is open to all area high school sophomores and juniors.
Up to 32 finalists will be selected to participate in Youth Day in Springfield based on their applications. During Youth, students will tour the Illinois Capitol, visit the Abraham Lincoln Museum and meet students from across Illinois.
At the end of Youth Day, students will participate in brief interviews. Immediately following the interviews, Youth to Washington winners will be announced. Two winners and an alternate will be selected to represent Adams Electric Cooperative and two winners and an alternate will be selected to represent Adams Telephone Co-Operative. Winners will travel to Washington, D.C. by charter bus on June 11-18 for an all-expense paid tour of Washington, D.C.
While on tour, winners will visit the Civil War Battlefield at Gettysburg, the National Cathedral, Smithsonian Museums, Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, FDR Memorial, George Washington's home and grounds, Supreme Court, Kennedy Center, Arlington Cemetery, the Holocaust Museum, among numerous other sites. Students will also enjoy a special twilight Potomac River Boat Cruise.*
During the tour students will take part in a Chip-N-Pop Co-op and learn how cooperatives operate. Find out why being a member is so important.
Lasting memories will be created with friends from across the United States.
Adams Electric Cooperative has been sending students to Washington since 1959. In 2004, Adams Telephone Co-Operative joined the program doubling the number of local winners. Don't miss your chance to participate!
