Loraine Recognized as a Smart Rural Community

The Village of Loraine has officially joined a growing list of communities recognized as Smart Rural Communities (SRC) by Adams Fiber and NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association. The designation celebrates Loraine’s commitment to advancing innovation, connectivity, and opportunity through access to high-speed fiber internet.

Adams Board President Daron Duke presented the recognition during a recent Village Board meeting, commending local leaders and residents for their vision and partnership in supporting fiber broadband expansion.

“Strong communities are built on strong connections,” said Duke. “Loraine’s investment in fiber technology ensures that residents, businesses, and students have the tools they need to thrive — not just today, but for generations to come. Adams is proud to partner with forward-thinking towns like Loraine that see broadband as essential infrastructure.”

Through Adams Fiber’s Smart Rural Community initiative, Loraine now joins a network of towns across west-central Illinois that are leveraging broadband to enhance education, healthcare, economic development, and overall quality of life. The designation includes roadside signage, community recognition materials, and inclusion in national SRC spotlights.

Village officials expressed their appreciation for the designation and for Adams’ continued commitment to the area. With access to Adams Fiber’s advanced broadband network, residents in and around Loraine enjoy reliable high-speed connections capable of supporting remote work, distance learning, streaming, and smart home technology.

“We’ve always known our community was special,” said Ken Gray, Mayor of Loraine. “Having access to this level of technology keeps Loraine connected and competitive. We’re excited for what’s ahead.”

Adams Fiber continues to expand its Smart Rural Community presence throughout the region, with more towns slated to receive the designation in the coming months.
