811 Call Before You Dig
Save yourself a headache—know what’s below
Doing some work on your property? Before you plan on digging underground, call JULIE 24-hours-a-day toll free at 811 or 1-800-892-0123. You may also go to the website at www.illinois1call.com and fill out an e-Request form.
Remember, if you cut telephone wires, you not only affect local residential phone service, but you cut off vital lifeline communications services to the medical, emergency and law enforcement personnel.

- STEP 1
Be prepared to pinpoint the location of your dig site. Describe the type of work to be done and some detail as to where you are working on the site…white paint marking the borders of your excavation site is helpful.
- STEP 2
Plan your start date and time to comply with state law, which is at least two but not more than 14 business days after your call.
- STEP 3
One-Call will notify subscribing utilities for you. Utility companies, such as Adams, will come to your work site and mark where their buried facilities are located.
- STEP 4
Once the site is marked, or you have been notified that a particular facility owner has nothing at your dig site, you can begin to dig safely. Remember, utility marks tell you to stay at least two feet away from them. They do not mean dig here!
